Mnichovo Hradiste Chateau

 

 

A stronghold was built here in the late 15th century and had various owners. In 1600, Václav Budovec of Budov had the stronghold rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau. Albrecht of Wallenstein acquired the estate after the execution of Václav Budovec in 1621 and the members of his family owned the chateau until 1945.

At present it houses a splendid library and picture gallery and the State Regional Archive has its seat here. A lapidarium together with the tomb of Albrecht of Wallenstein is to be seen in the Chapel of St.Anne.
