The beginning of the history of the Mlada Boleslav Castle dates back to the 2nd half of the 10th century by King Boleslav II. At that time, there was an ancient fort that occupied nearly the whole area of today`s Staré Město. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Mladá Boleslav was an important Jewish center. The Mlada Boleslav Castle was severely damaged by a fire in the 16th century and the Lords Krajířové of Krajek, then owners of the Mladá Boleslav estate, undertook an extensive conversion in Renaissance style. The castle suffered yet more severe damage during the thirty-years war when it was occupied by the Swedes and later ruined. The battered castle became the property of the town in the late 17th century and was scheduled for demolition. None took place, however, and the castle kept dilapidating until the middle of the 18th century, when it was converted to a military barracks. It was used by the military until 1952. The Museum of the Mladá Boleslav Region is now located in the chateau.
I wish you a wonderful trip!
